Welcome Registered Runners!
We're happy to have you run the 2019 Classic!
Here's some helpful information for you...
Packet Pick-up SchedulePacket pick-up will be in a large tent in the Sirata's South (shell) parking lot behind the Compass Grille.
It's open: 3 PM to 7 PM Friday the 18th and
6 AM to 11 AM and 4 to 5 PM Saturday the 19th
You should bring a copy of your email confirmation, but an ID will work if you forget it. You can pick up for a friend if you bring a copy of their confirmation and a copy of their ID as well. A photocopy or picture on a phone will work. Items you'll receive at Packet Pick-Up
Your race packet will include your bib number with timing chip attached - safety pins will be available for you to take if you want them. DO NOT FOLD or otherwise mangle your chip when you pin it on or it will not work! Race numbers should be worn on the front of your body, upright so the photographer can identify you and the chip will work properly.
You will also then receive your runner's "Goodie Bag" and your T-shirt. You will be given the shirt size you selected when you registered, depending on availability you may be able to exchange it if you want a different size.
Before you exit the tent, be sure to deposit one of your bib tear tags in the raffle box for your registered event. We will be drawing winners at the post-race party!
Race Day DetailsThe race weekend schedule can be found here.
Traffic will be re-directed starting at 6 AM as the race course is closed -- plan to ARRIVE EARLY to avoid delays from the congestion!!
Note that the time of the 10K is 7 AM to avoid interference with the Kids Dashes and 5K start.
The Half Marathon start time is 6:45 a.m. (we moved it up last year to give you more time)
Parking InformationSt. Pete Beach is a narrow, barrier island and parking is at a premium. We have received approval to use the following parking areas by the local owners:
- Sea Hags restaurant in the 4900 block of Gulf Blvd (until 10 AM)
- Freaky Tiki just South of the Sirata (until 10AM) on the West side of Gulf
- Business lots 200 block of Corey Ave. (North side)
- City Hall parking 100 block of Corey Ave.
- SPB Library 300 block of 73rd Ave.
- Synovus Bank 6500 Gulf Blvd.
Suggested public parking areas are as follows:
- County park - 4800 block of Gulf Blvd. across from Dolphin Village
- Upham Beach - 6700 block of Beach Plaza
- Corey Ave. & Downtown SPB (200 to 400 block)
- Any side streets & metered spaces
Legal parking anywhere is OK and you should not be ticketed until 11 AM on either Saturday or Sunday, so park wherever you find a space or a meter.
DO NOT PARK in Dolphin Village (or shop there for that matter!), they will tow you. Also, don't park next to a fire hydrant, blocking a driveway or on the race course.
There are no official shuttles but Free Beach Ride will be available. http://www.freebeachride.com Drivers work for tips only so please have a little cash handy.
WeatherIt appears that this year the weather will seasonal with highs around 70 and lows in the 60's. Cooler weather is expected late Sunday, BUT, keep an eye on it, our weather can change quickly!!
Baggage CheckBaggage check will be available and is located directly behind the finish line in the big tent. Use your Goodie Bag and a tear tag from your bib number to identify your stuff (writing your name, address and phone on the tag would help too). We will not be responsible for lost or stolen items so don't put any valuables or your car keys in there!! The check operation will be closed down shortly after the race is finished so be prompt and don't leave without your stuff. This service will also be available for the Saturday night beach fun run.
Post-race MassageThe therapists from Epic Bodyworks will be on hand this year to provide massage after your race. The first 5 minutes are free (the Classic is buying), there will be a charge for each additional 10 minutes so bring a few bucks and pamper yourself -- you've earned it!
Course AdvisoryFor your safety and security be aware that many of the roads are not closed, so stay in lanes coned off for runners and be alert at all times for an errant vehicle that might have strayed onto the course.
There is construction between miles 1 & 2 of the 10K and 5K and 9 & 10 of the half-marathon course causing us to alter the course a bit.
The course has been re-measured and the total length is accurate.
The half-marathon also passes over a short, narrow bridge into and off of the Vina del Mar neighborhood just past 4 miles and at 6 miles. The bridge will be coned off to give traffic a single lane in the middle. Run in the road with the cones to your left going onto and off of the island -- do not run in the middle where the cars will be!!
While the courses are not “certified” they are accurate as they were measured in the same manner. We will obtain certification as soon as the Construction is over in 2020.
Support on the CourseThere will be water stops about every 1.5 miles on each of the courses.
On the Half-marathon every other stop will have sports drink as well as water. Sports drink and water will be available at the venue for all races. Course marshals will be at each turn with directional signs and at intersecting streets to assist in getting any vehicles across the course safely.
Sheriff's deputies will control all major intersections and EMS will be available if necessary. EMS can treat you on course and/or transport you to the closest hospital - they are not allowed to take you anywhere else - like your car for instance!
Road ClosurePermits required from the DOT to close the roads mandate that we begin returning traffic to normal at 10 AM both Saturday and Sunday. That gives 5K participants one hour and Half-marathon participants three hours and fifteen minutes to complete their event.
If you are still on the course at that point you will be asked to move to the sidewalk for safety reasons.
The finish line along with timing and finishers medals will remain open longer since it is located in the Sirata south parking lot.
Gun Time or Chip TimePer USAT&F rules, the Overall winners, including Masters, will be determined by gun time. Age group awards will be determined by chip time, however, a larger than appropriate difference between the two for any one individual may cause revision of their results.
AwardsAwards will be given out 3 deep in each of 16, 5-year age groups (male and female) in each of the three competitive events. Duo and Marathon Challenge awards will go only to first place of each age group based on fastest combined time. Each award winner will receive a "zipper pull" to attach to their finisher's medal as well as a functional award.
Only Challenge competitors will be timed for the beach fun run and that time added to their times for the other three events to determine their "marathon" finishing time.
Race PhotosRace photos will be taken by BB Action Photography and will be available a few days after the event.
A link will be posted on the race website under Results > Photos, here:
Post Race PartyParticipants will have access to various fluids (sports drink, water, soda, beer...) and food after their event.
This is for the athletes only -- not for family and friends! Please be courteous to your fellow athletes, particularly those who have not yet finished, and don't overload your plate on your first pass through the buffet.
Ultimately, any left over food is donated to the St. Pete Free Clinic to feed the less fortunate.
None will be wasted! -- Thank you in advance for your consideration!
That's all from us, see you this weekend!
